Local chapters shall nurture the roots of the Collective, upholding the Serendipity philosophy and serving as a lighthouse for the local community. They provide the nurturing ground, enriching the quality of the ideas proposed for global funding each year.
The Serendipity Collective emphasizes the significance of localized communities. This is reflected in their chapter development framework. Local chapters play a pivotal role in harnessing the power of communities to drive the collective’s objectives. These chapters provide a structure for like-minded individuals to come together, share ideas, and work towards common goals.
Initiating and managing a local chapter entails a systematic evaluation approach and optimal utilization of the toolkit provided by the Serendipity Collective. Aspiring chapter leaders are encouraged to complete a survey that assesses their motivation, skills, experiences, and anticipated support needs. This survey provides insights into their drive to lead a local chapter, their ability to nurture ground-breaking ideas within their community, and the support they expect from the overarching body. Moreover, chapter leaders have access to a digital innovation hub and a dedicated website page tailored for their individual chapter, further equipping them to establish, nurture, and maintain their community.
The Serendipity Collective has proven that it can foster groundbreaking ideas and solutions that address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. While the first edition has gained significant traction and has made a measurable impact, there is an untapped potential that lies in the power of localized, community-driven efforts.
The concept of “Think globally, act locally” has never been more relevant. Innovators often possess unique insights into specific challenges or are exceptional visionaries and, consequently, are best positioned to develop world-changing novelties. However, they may lack the resources, network, and platform to bring these solutions to fruition. This is where the establishment of local chapters for the Serendipity Collective can play a pivotal role.
These chapters will serve as catalysts for change, providing a collaborative environment that local innovators need to succeed. More importantly, they will act as the embodiment of the Collective, ensuring that the challenge’s objectives are translated into powerful and relevant proposals to the Collective’s yearly challenges.
A chapter is a localized community that’s part of the Collective, dedicated to empower innovative individuals and their blue-sky ideas. Each chapter is led by a dedicated Chapter Leader, a visionary who fosters innovation and impact within their specific region or topic of interest.
These chapters act as dynamic hubs where individuals from various backgrounds—be it tech enthusiasts, social innovators, or curious minds—come together to explore, collaborate, and create.
THE CHAPTERS ARE THE COLLECTIVE.
THE COLLECTIVE IS EACH INDIVIDUAL INNOVATOR.
Every member, no matter their background or expertise, plays a pivotal role in the collective’s success. It’s the individual sparks of inspiration, the late-night brainstorming sessions, the relentless pursuit of solutions, that fuel our collective fire. In this symbiotic relationship, the growth and achievements of the individual enrich the Collective, and the strength of the collective empowers each individual.
Together, as a united force of innovators, we challenge the status quo, break boundaries, and redefine what’s possible. We are not just dreamers; we are doers, builders, and changemakers. And in this journey of innovation, every voice matters, every idea counts, and every member plays a part in sculpting the future we aspire to create.
THE COLLECTIVE’S OBJECTIVES = THE INNOVATOR’S
In our collective, the objectives of the whole are intrinsically tied to the aspirations of each individual innovator. This isn’t a top-down hierarchy where directives are handed down from above. Instead, we operate as a true collective, a collaborative ecosystem where every member has the autonomy and encouragement to innovate, explore, and push boundaries. Each individual’s pursuit of new horizons enriches and informs the collective’s goals, ensuring that our shared mission is constantly evolving and adapting.
EMPOWERMENT THROUGH COLLABORATION
In the Collective, every member is both a contributor and a beneficiary. We believe in the power of collective intelligence, where each individual’s unique perspective and expertise amplify our shared potential.
ADAPTIVE LEARNING
The Collective is a dynamic learning hub. Through workshops, mentorship, and collaborative projects, members continuously learn, grow, and adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of innovation.
A TRUE VOICE
We operate on the principle of equality. Every member has a voice, and every voice matters. Decisions are made collectively, ensuring that our actions and objectives truly reflect the desires and needs of our community.
INITIAL OUTREACH
Partner with local individuals for initial outreach via social media or newsletter campaigns.
LOCAL RELEVANCE
Each chapter has the option to focus on issues that are most relevant to their community, thereby ensuring that the innovation challenge remains pertinent across diverse geographies.
RESOURCE POOLING
Chapters can pool resources, both intellectual and material and beyond a single chapter, to tackle far-reaching challenges that align with the broader goals of the innovation challenge.
IF YOU ARE AN INNOVATOR AND WANT TO BE PART OF A GLOBAL MOVEMENT THAT’S REDEFINING THE FUTURE, THIS IS YOUR MOMENT
START FROM SCRATCH
Individuals can start a local chapter and build their community on the existing Serendipity Collective framework by expressing their interest to create or to join a chapter via a dedicated form. After a discovery meeting and an evaluation, the chapter can begin its journey with its new leaders.
COMMUNITY BUILDING
Local chapters will serve as hubs for like-minded individuals to connect, collaborate, and innovate. The chapters should organize local meetups (physical or virtual) to dream up, share, discuss and select ideas for local or global funding. The meetups may also include local speakers to inspire & mentor the participants.
ON-BOARDING
Communities will be active on the Serendipity Collective website, with access to the Ideateplus Digital Innovation Hub, where each (registered) innovator can learn more about the Collective, interact with previous ideas and improve their own by going through the innovation journey.
TALENT DEVELOPMENT
Local chapters can serve as incubators for emerging talent, providing mentorship, training, and resources via the Ideateplus Digital Innovation Hub as well as other local resources.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
Each chapter will be provided with a list of topics, subjects, criteria that align with the Collective’s philosophy. Thus, chapters can initiate discussions, projects, or proposals, based on local, national, or global needs and alignment with the overall innovation challenge.
SELF- ORGANISATION
Chapters can self-organize in the most creative ways the members can think of: coffee discussions, collaborative meetings, cross-chapter “task forces”, knowledge exchange or even DAO structures.
FEEDBACK LOOP
Local chapters can provide real-time feedback on the effectiveness of projects, which can be invaluable for the overall innovation challenge. Also, the interaction with an international community (other chapters, the collective’s leaders, etc.) further aligns the projects to the innovation framework and the expectations of future challenges.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Chapters are self-sustained and create their own schedule and pace of progress. With access to the Digital Innovation Hub and other Collective resources, each individual can innovate in their own rhythm. Important updates are made on each chapter’s designated page: changing chapter leaders, announcing an event, and, in the best scenario: winning a Collective grant.
POP-UP EVENTS
The chapter could host pop-up events in different locations, bringing the community to various parts of a city or region, and making it accessible to a broader audience.
DIGITAL INTEGRATION
The fluidity of the physical space would be complemented by strong digital integration via the Digital Innovation Hub.
COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS
To facilitate its fluid nature, the chapter might form partnerships with local businesses, community centres, or other organizations to use their spaces for meetings or events.
DIVERSE ENVIRONMENTS
Embracing a fluid approach means the chapter can operate in diverse environments, from urban centres to rural areas, indoor venues to outdoor parks, ensuring a rich and varied experience for members.
Chapter Leaders take ownership and lead by abiding to the Collective’s philosophy and by being its ambassadors.
With access to intellectual resources, each chapter leader is responsible for any financial resources for organizing local events (usually in the form of sponsorships). If the chapter has the opportunity to scale up, it can become a physical chapter.
Part of the objective of the Local Chapters is to ENRICH THE QUALITY OF THE IDEAS PROPOSED FOR GLOBAL FUNDING EACH YEAR.
Chapter leaders are encouraged to ensure that all local participants familiarize themselves with the Digital Innovation Hub in order to ensure that a solid base for discussion exists. The hub includes:
LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (LMS)
The Ideateplus LMS provides on-line courses (with examples from previous ideas) for each phase of the innovation process.
CHAPTER CROWDSOURCING PLATFORM
To run individual local challenges and select the most promising ideas and teams.
COLLABORATION PLATFORM
To reach out to members of the collective to discuss past and future ideas within the collective.
